Jonathan's football team kicked off the season on Saturday. He's on the Auburn Tigers playing both offense and defense. Their team won the first game 13-0 and the second game no one scored. Jonathan made a couple great tackles. I got one on video but Blogger seems to be having problems with video uploads... He also got to run the ball for 2 plays and gained a few yards. He's definitely a natural athlete.
Even though he's been playing for 4 years there's one thing he can't seem to grasp the concept of... teamwork! In his mind, unless he touches the ball during a play, he hasn't really played. He doesn't understand how all the players work together towards a common goal (touchdown) and each person's role is important even if they aren't running the ball. We are trying to help him see how a block or a tackle can be the key to winning the game, etc...
Lifelesson: Just like in football, not everyone gets to run the "ball" but everyone is vital to the outcome of the game. Every player gets credit for the outcome too, win OR lose! Are you in the game and are you in it to win, even if you don't get to run the ball?
